Shumba Energy operates from the most politically and fiscally stable country in sub-Saharan Africa: Botswana. This is also the country with the first and longest-running democracy on the African continent.

Unlike in many other mineral-based economies, Botswana is not prone to bad governance. In fact the country is the perfect example of ‘good economics, good politics’. Since the country’s independence, the leadership of Botswana has facilitated and upheld a good governance setting ensuring social and economic growth and stability. According to Moody’s Investors Service, Botswana has an A2 government bond rating with a stable outlook.

Botswana has a rather strong balance sheet and a net external creditor position as well as a low debt turn. The country has been ranked by Transparency International as the least corrupt country in Africa. Botswana is also a member of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group.

In terms of energy, Botswana’s available resources include coal, bioenergy fuels, coal-bed methane and solar. Shumba holds various projects comprised of these resources.
